Some of the best live rock I have ever seen has been aquacultured and it is a great way to be bring some more diversity into the tank. I think their rant on aquacultured rock may be the reason why the book was not picked up by a major publisher, making it difficult to find sometimes. But that means nothing compared to the vast amount of detailed, accurate information in this book.

It really helps you understand what a refugium really is, what it does, and how it works. It provides the same type of information about live rock, live sand, as well as information about your options of macroalgae, hermits, sea stars, and more. This book is very detailed when it comes to corals.

It is very good at giving you a real idea of what the lighting needs are and what light actually does in the coral, how stony corals grow, what foods they really need, how they color up, why they brown out under inadequate lighting etc. The aquarium setup instructions are questionable at best, often conflicting with most other experts in the field.

The authors explanation of various types of equipment is paltry at best, and the author completely ignores the new standard in biological filtration live rock and sand. Take it all with a grain of salt. Beginners, don't download this as a setup guide.

For that, look for books by Michael Paletta and Martin A. Moe Jr. Otherwise, this is a decent book for general husbandry and helpful for the selection of our animals. I bought this book after downloading their other one on freshwater fish. The book is filled with pictures and is very easy to navigate when looking for information.

Bought both of these books for a great friend's son and he read them over and over.

Constantly telling me things I had no clue what so ever about!!! So great for ages 8 and up to practice reading while also learning about their fish tanks!

Very good, just what I was expecting. Not good for someone looking for general info, I would recommend if you are like me, and just enjoy reading about random stuff.

Excellent book on the wonderful world of marine life. Very well done with numerous pictures and tons of great detail on the fish, the hardware, etc. Highly recommended. I have several Saltwater Aquarium books and each one has new information that I can use.
