Nov 23, Smarties rated it really liked it.

Siguro dahil kalahati Bobong Works at kalahati compilation.. Parang thesis, review of related literature..

Gawin sanang pre-requisite bago manungkulan.. Jul 24, Rokia27 rated it it was amazing.

PINOY k diba? Aug 21, Tristan Ferrer rated it did not like it. My least favorite book of Bob Ong. I really got bored and it took me some time to finish this because I always feel sleepy whenever I read it. But don't get me wrong, I love Bob Ong and his works and his ideologies. I just find it boring because this book is just a collection of essays from different people and the author's opinion about it.

I think Bob Ong wants to somehow insult the readers and let them think of ways to change. Well I was convinced at some parts but as I said, most of the time My least favorite book of Bob Ong. Well I was convinced at some parts but as I said, most of the time it just made me sleep. Oct 16, Abi rated it it was ok Shelves: This book was our project for Filipino class before semestral break and our professor told us to read this for my group's book report, but I couldn't get past the first chapter.

Probably not my kind of book, I guess. Dec 09, Conrado Luis rated it really liked it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

The author, Bob Ong, showed humor in events that we did not find funny at all.

Its amazing how one presented such material, opening our minds on how we are with our "Filipino Ways". A must-read. Oct 04, Joyzi rated it liked it Recommends it for: Bob Ong Crazy Fans. Very good lots of issues were tackled about race and Filipinos, but this is my least favorite out of all books because this is more serious and less humorous.

There are also boring parts in this book that I didn't like. Jan 20, KM Cunanan rated it it was amazing. This is my favorite out of all his books. I love the wittiness; the subtle political and social satire is impeccable. Jan 28, Elaine Leng rated it it was amazing Shelves: I bought this book when I visited the Philippines because I wanted to practice my Tagalog reading skills, and it was one of the few Tagalog books I found in National Bookstore.

I think this was a very interesting and entertaining read. Bob Ong definitely hit a lot of the same frustrations I have with current Filipino culture. What I like about it though is that his way of complaining isn't to diminish Filipino culture, but to uplift it because he truly believes the nation can do better. Unfortuna I bought this book when I visited the Philippines because I wanted to practice my Tagalog reading skills, and it was one of the few Tagalog books I found in National Bookstore.

Unfortunately as it is with all kinds of complaining sessions, you do get to a point where everything becomes circular or contradicting. I found this especially true with some of the criticisms of colonial mentality. As you can see, that's really ironic.

I also balk at Nick Garcia's disdain towards Starbucks, and his condescension towards female Filipino teens. His complaints about Starbucks culture is reminiscent of the world's belittling opinion of anything that is marketed towards girls like One Direction or Twilight or the colour pink; don't get me wrong, I like none of these things, but my "I'm-not-like-other-girls" phase is pretty much over.

Gripes about materialism are understandable, but once you start picking on squatters for having washing machines, you're being myopic. That's a lot like when people here in North American cannot afford health insurance and are made to feel bad about having smartphones.

Let's be real -- giving up your washing machine isn't going to make you more likely to afford real estate. These things are just symptoms of bigger issues about employment and affordability of necessities. Overall, I did like it. It's a lot to stomach, and the constant barrage of everything wrong with the Philippines can get depressing at times.

But Bob Ong does leave the reader on a higher note, and prompts us to think about how we can help fix things, now that we're done complaining. Jul 31, Ron rated it really liked it.

Lahat may opinyon.
